On Wednesday we went to the new POUNAMU PATHWAY! Year 6s, 5s and 4s all were going up in parents cars. We would also bring a booklet that we had to draw and write notes in, when we go through the Pounamu Pathway. I went up in my mum’s car with my brother, (Logan), my friend, (Zoe, and my brother’s classmate, (Baou). The boys were screaming goats and annoying me and Zoe on the way there and even on the way back!
Anyway let’s get to the real reason I posted this. We got to a very fashionable carpark and then the entrance was stunning! As we walked through the gates to go inside I was so flabbergasted. It was lit up by projectors and it was dark and just so cool. It was all black but with patterns and lights everywhere and there where exhibits. It was a bit smaller than I thought it would be but it was still big.
There was a room that had a chief in it, his name was Tuhuru, he was the chief of Ngai Tahu Poutini. There also was a room about the birthing of the West Coast. The art of it is just out of this world! And then there is the loud/scary room, (There’s so many names for it), and that’s the room of the wars. The wars are about when Raureka, (part of the Ngati Wairangi Tribe) went over the Southern Alps to find more people. She went with her dog and her toki, (a maori tool made out of pounamu). She found a Ngai Tahu hunting party and saw them using stone tools, she showed her sharpness by chopping a cabbage tree. They asked for some pounamu so they started a trade up. Pounamu for food. Then one day the chief of Ngai Tahu thought, “Why are we trading lets just go and take over the pounamu for ourselves!”. And well that’s how the wars started. The seats vibrated and everything was lighting up blood red to deep green. There was a room where you could watch a predictor of maori living a day. There so much more but this is a lot of writing and so I’m gonna stop here!
